Antique American Empire Flame Mahogany End Table w/ Paw Feet, c.1900’s

Description: This handsome American Empire-style end table, dating to the early 1900s, is crafted in richly figured flame mahogany and features the bold classical proportions associated with the style. The sculptural pedestal base is supported by carved paw feet fitted with brass casters, while the case offers multiple storage areas, including an unusual removable pull-out box that may have originally been used for sewing notions, personal accessories, or other small valuables. A brass skeleton key is included and properly operates the locking mechanism on the upper drawer; the lower drawer opens and functions normally, although its lock mechanism is no longer operational. Our restoration studio has carefully inspected the piece to ensure the drawers, removable box, base, casters, and structural components are functioning properly, while intentionally preserving the original aged surface and antique character. Presented in original vintage condition, the table retains the warm patina, natural wear, and decorative character developed throughout more than a century of use.

Fun Historical Fact American Empire furniture was heavily influenced by ancient Greek and Roman imagery, often incorporating pedestal bases, dramatic mahogany veneers, and carved animal-paw feet. Small work tables became especially popular during the 19th century because they provided compact storage for sewing supplies, correspondence, jewelry, and other personal belongings. Removable trays and fitted boxes made these pieces particularly useful, allowing their contents to be carried or organized separately from the table itself. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, American furniture makers continued producing Empire-inspired designs, preserving these distinctive classical forms for a new generation of interiors.
