Description: This expertly refinished mid-century side table was designed by Danish architect-designer Ib Kofod-Larsen for the English maker G-Plan in the 1960s. The rectangular top appears to float over tapered legs and a sculpted slatted shelf that neatly stores books or magazines. Its construction combines Burmese teak (with a warm amber cast) and afrormosia—often called “African teak” and traded from regions including West–Central Africa and Madagascar—giving the piece layered color and grain. Softly rounded edges and crisp joinery showcase Kofod-Larsen’s preference for understated craftsmanship and everyday utility. A refined example of the celebrated Anglo-Danish collaboration, it brings Scandinavian lines together with British build quality.
Fun Historical Fact: In the early 1960s G-Plan launched Kofod-Larsen’s “Danish Range,” helping to popularize teak and afrormosia furniture across Britain; the line became so beloved that many households began furnishing entire rooms in matching G-Plan suites.
