Mid Century Modern Walnut Sideboard by Century Furniture, c.1960's

Description: This Mid Century Modern sideboard by Century Furniture showcases a warm walnut finish, clean architectural lines, and understated brass hardware characteristic of refined American modern design of the 1960's. The balanced façade combines a generous full-width upper drawer with two central drawers and flanking cabinet doors, providing versatile storage while maintaining a streamlined profile. The upper drawer includes fitted interior dividers ideal for organizing flatware and serving pieces, while the lower cabinets provide additional shelving for dining and household essentials. Slender tapered legs, subtly molded framing, and richly figured walnut surfaces give the piece an elegant presence suited to use as a sideboard, buffet, or credenza. The piece was meticulously refinished by our Los Angeles restoration studio, with careful attention given to its construction, finish, functionality, and original design character.

Fun Historical Fact

Century Furniture traces its history to Hickory, North Carolina, where the company developed into one of the prominent American furniture manufacturers of the twentieth century. During the mid-century era, American manufacturers increasingly combined traditional cabinetmaking expertise with the cleaner forms and functional approach associated with modern design. Walnut became particularly desirable for modern case furniture because its naturally expressive grain and warm coloration complemented restrained silhouettes without requiring elaborate ornamentation. Pieces such as this sideboard also reflected changing American interiors, where adaptable storage furniture could serve equally well for dining, entertaining, and general household organization.
