Description: This vintage Replogle “Comprehensive” World Globe, dating to the 1960s, combines detailed cartography with an elegant mahogany pedestal stand and brass meridian. The globe’s cartography is attributed to LeRoy M. Tolman, whose role was as the cartographer responsible for the geographic content rather than the designer of the furniture-style stand. Its turned central column, gracefully curved supports, and tripod base reflect the traditional influence of American Classical Revival design. Although presented in original vintage condition, every piece that passes through our Los Angeles restoration studio is carefully inspected for structural integrity and functionality; this globe was personally checked to ensure the wooden joints are secure, the stand is sturdy and stable, and the globe operates properly. The globe itself remains in good overall vintage condition and can be detached from the stand for easier and safer transport.

Fun Historical Fact Replogle Globes, Inc. was founded in Chicago in 1930 and became one of the most recognized American globe manufacturers of the 20th century. During the 1960s, the company offered decorative floor and table globes that paired contemporary geographic information with traditional furniture-inspired wooden stands. Cartographer LeRoy M. Tolman contributed the map information used on Replogle’s Comprehensive series, documenting the political and geographic boundaries of the period. Because borders, country names, and cities continually change, vintage globes like this one provide a fascinating visual record of how the world was represented at a particular moment in history.
